Award to Christopher Parkening

At this year’s La Guitarra California Festival held at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on September 22-24, Christopher Parkening was presented their Lifetime Achievement Award “presented biennially to an acclaimed musician whose accomplishments have greatly increased the world-wide appreciation of classical guitar.”

Festival Director Russ DeAngelo presented the award on Friday night, followed by a brief concert by Mr. Parkening with baritone Jubilant Sykes.  Mr. DeAngelo commented, “We are supremely honored to etch the name of Maestro Christopher Parkening into the La Guitarra Lifetime Achievement Award in perpetuity.”

On Saturday morning of the Festival, Mr. Parkening gave an informative master class to an appreciative sold-out audience.  Four classical guitar students played their pieces, and were given practical ideas on how to improve their technique.

Blair Jackson, editor of Classical Guitar Magazine, who attended the weekend’s events, published a review of the festival online.  His article may be found here.
